Four Podcasts That Keep Me Motivated
Does anyone else find it impossible to get any work done when you listen to music? I’ve tried all the ‘Focus’ playlists on Spotify, relaxing sounds and classical music and they nothing apart from distract me.
The one thing I have found I can listen to whilst working is podcasts. Not only is it relaxing to sit and listen to someone talk, they can also be my greatest motivation to keep working.
I have become addicted to listening to a podcast every time I have a spare minute. There is nothing like listening to creative, entrepreneurial women who are absolutely killing it to light a fire under your butt to get working hard!
My journey into podcast listening is relatively new but I wanted to share four of my favourite podcasts which I can listen to all day (literally) and which I learn incredible lessons from in life and in business.
Jen Carrington is a creative coach who works with creative business owners to find their purpose and create a sustainable business. Her podcast, Make It Happen, is full of incredible advice and tips not just from Jen herself but also from her amazing bosslady creative guests who each have their own amazing stories. My favourite episodes come in the form of Mini Episodes which each give a snippet of advice and reassurance on every aspect of running a business. Plus, it is excellent to hear a familiar northern accent every now and again!
Listen When: You want advice from someone with relevant and excellent experience
The Goal Digger Podcast is hosted by Jenna Kutcher, self-confessed mac and cheese addict and entrepreneur. My inspiration from Jenna comes mainly from the fact that she started her photography business completely from scratch without any experience, just a desire to get going (not too different from my own story). Her podcast is ideal for me as she does not hold back with advice and is keen to tell her story with all the nitty gritty to help other creatives and women.
Listen When: Imposter Syndrome kicks in and you need to a bit of encouragement from someone who has been through it all.
I started listening to Being Boss after seeing it appear in most creative business owners ‘must listen to podcasts’ lists. The hosts Kathleen and Emily are both bosses of their own website design and branding businesses and it is inspirational to hear successful people talk about the industry I work in myself. Their advice is invaluable, both in business and life and I can’t recommend it enough.
Listen When: You need boss-worthy advice for any area of your business.
The first podcast I ever listened to was that of writer Emma Gannon, who I have followed online for a huge amount of time. Ctrl Alt Delete is based on people who have grown up on the internet and their experiences online. Her guests all have their own unique stories about everything from MySpace to internet trolls and hearing how others experience compares to your own and what lessons they have learnt is very entertaining.
Listen When: You need reassuring that you are not the only person overwhelmed by social media.
I'm always on the look out (or listen out?) for new podcasts to keep me and my creative business going so if you have any recommendations, drop them in a comment below!
